Dear Parents,
Razkids is now functioning at optimal level. Please feel free to use this resource! The code will be sent in the agenda shortly.

Please click the Twitter to view your child`s post. We are participating in the Global Read Aloud 2015. Some of the posts are for children in other classes to read, as we are also participating in a global guessing game, where we post two facts and one "stumper". For Twitter, the students each have an "animal spirit name" which is written in your child`s agenda. Communication is a two way street, if you would like to direct message your child please use their " animal spirit name"and they will read your message on the smart board the next morning. Thanks to "Wild Dog`s" Mom for starting the trend!

We have more Grade 2 lego movies to post shortly. You will also be able to view them Progress Report Night when you visit. Thank you for your patience.

The kidblog is also set up and we will be using that in class, as we have connected with five classes  for Global Read Aloud 2015. Kids will have access to it and a sign in code. I will curate the comments. It`s a secure way for them to post their thoughts about the books we are reading and to read and respond to other children from other countries.

Sunday 13 September 2015

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Grades 1 and 2 Blog! The learning has begun! You will find some helpful information in the Educational links section of this blog.

In the months to come, the Grades 1 and 2 students will be developing their reading skills. They will participate in self-selected classroom reading, guided reading and shared reading. Regardless of his or her reading level, all students will benefit from this daily practice. Our Grades 1 and 2 programs are coordinated with our Primary Teaching Team in order to maximize access to resources and facilitate a comprehensive program for all.

Students will have a Raz Kids account where they will login from home and read with a parent. Students in Grade 1 will read each evening for 10 minutes, Monday to Thursday ( 40 min. a week). Students in Grade 2 for 15 minutes each evening Monday to Thursday (1 hour. per week). There will NOT be a "Reading Log Sheet" as the Teacher can view the reading level and log in times and accumulated times online. There are two promises that parents must keep for the program to work effectively. 1) Please do not allow an older child or cousin to "play" on your child`s account. 2) Log off and do not let the program run inactively. I will be checking in weekly for your child`s activity.  Family life is busy, there is some room for flexibility, that is why it is a four day a week program. Naturally, reading every evening is ideal. Your child will have sign in information shortly, for Raz Kids as well as Dreambox. If you find yourself without computer access, let me know.

In the future months, students will be instructed on how to pick their "just right level" books which they will choose from bins in the class. These will include picture books, non fiction books and chapter books. Our Library Day will be each Wednesday and books will go home that evening to be returned the next week.

Thank you,

Ms. Gray

Happy Summer Holidays!

Kids are off to camp! Families are off on vacation! It`s time to relax.

Throughout July, Teachers have been preparing for September by taking Additional Qualification courses at the Universities. In two weeks, Professional Development courses offered by the board offices begin. These courses target specific teaching skills such as number talks in Math, Integration of Technology and Curriculum Design.

This Kindergarten blog was used to express learning by students of St.Anthony ( 2013/2014) and Our Lady Of Mount Carmel (2014/2015). The blog will be changing focus shortly with the new addition of the kidblog, where children can blog about their own ideas and share their learning journey.

A few helpful hints:
Lunch for Kindergarten is from 11:55-am 12:35pm. If you drop your child off after this time please let us know if your child has eaten or not.

Morning arrival before the bell, Kindergarten students are to be outside in the Kindergarten area, in the morning. The ECE or Teacher will be greeting students. Students are not to be dropped off inside the school and waiting in the hall, there is no supervision inside.

We often forget to send the blankets home on Fridays. You can remind us about the blanket, at pick up time!
